The World During the 1970's.There were many different changes happening inside as well as outside of the United States. The world still viewed America as the biggest superpower of the world, yet we couldn't even beat Vietnam. Back at home, people were discontent with the way the government was running things or how they were treated so they tried to change it.

Events from the 70's
Over the seas, there was a war that was about to erupt between the two different sides of Vietnam: the Viet. Cong and the AVRN. The Viet Cong were dedicated communists and America was fighting against communism, so we chose the ARVN side. However, things started getting tough for America and ARVN.
The Gulf of Tonkin is quite a mess today, but back in the 70's, it was the one event that pushed America into the Vietnam War. What the public was told was that two American ships were fired at by the Vietnamese in the Gulf of Tonkin. Years later, some documents were declassified suggesting that it didn't really happen.
Tet is a Buddhist holiday that represents a day of peace. It also happens to be the day that the Viet cong attacked the Americans during the Vietnam war. We had proposed to not fight that day out of respect but the Viet cong did not listen. Instead, they took advantage of it and attacked.
Even while the war was going on, the president had to face what was going on back home. The public was tired of the war and they were trying to face their own struggle and oppression.
Nixon was one of the most controversial presidents that America has ever had. He did many great things with foreign policies but he also made many mistakes as he was a bully in office. Ultimately, it lead to him resigning from presidency before his term was over.
Now that the Civil Rights Movement had quieted down, it was the women's turn to get equality. Women started to get better job opportunities, more rights, and they started to define their own standards instead of go by the ones that were set for them.
For a year that went 44 years, there was little to no actual conflict. However, the end of the Cold War was a big day for America and the USSR (or Russia) because it signified the passing of history and the progression towards the future.
